One of the most iconic symbols of the American West, the Bison, almost hunted to extinction during the migration west, are now making a comeback. The herd is estimated to be around 350,000 from the 20 million that once roamed from the Appalachians to the Rockys so many year ago. On July 20, 1970 this commemorative 6 cent stamp celebrates this great animal. Over the years traveling out west, it never gets old seeing one of these massive creatures on the wide open plains, feeding along the creeks or literally walk down the road. Log live the American Buffalo!
